Shut eastbound between Hogarth Roundabout and Junction 2 of M4
March 24, 2023 Significant traffic problems are expected in the Chiswick and Brentford areas this weekend due to a planned closure of the A4 and M4. The road will be shut from 10pm on Friday 24 March to 5am on Monday 27 March eastbound between Hogarth Roundabout and Junction 2 of the M4. There will also be a closure of one lane westbound between Hogarth Roundabout and Chiswick Roundabout. This is to enable further work on the Cromwell Rail Bridge near Harvard Hill that was originally due to take place last year but had to be postponed on a number of occasions because of cold weather and transport strikes. There will also be a resurfacing of the A4’s junction with Sutton Court Road. TfL says now that work on this section of the A4 will be completed by mid-2023 having been originally scheduled to be finished by the end of 2022. Night time work is also taking place from Tuesday 21 March and Wednesday 22 March from 10pm to 5am. This will require the closure of the A4 (westbound) between Chiswick Roundabout and Hogarth Roundabout with no access from all routes leading onto the A4 westbound between these points. There will also be no access to Sutton Court Road from the A4 westbound.
Signed diversions will be in place during both closures. Bus Route E3 will be on diversion in both directions from 10pm on Friday 24 March until 5am on Monday 27 March . Buses towards Chiswick are diverted via Chiswick High Road, Chiswick Lane, Hogarth Roundabout and Ellesmere Road, missing stops from Duke Road (SS) to Barrowgate Road (H). Buses towards Greenford are diverted via Cedars Road, Chiswick Roundabout and Chiswick High Road, missing stops Barrowgate Road (F) and Chiswick Town Hall (YY). Bus Route 272 is curtailed; starting and terminating at stops TT and UU on Chiswick High Road during the roadworks. There is no service between Chiswick Town Hall (stops WW and YY) and the end of the route at Grove Park. Work by National Highways on the A4 in Brentford is also continuing, and Hounslow Council will be beginning work to instal a cycleway on Kew Bridge Road on Monday 27 March. During these works, delays and queues are expected and TfL advises you have to use the A4 Great West Road, allow more time for your journey. Where possible, it suggests using the A40 Westway and M40 to travel between Central London and the M25.
