Popular shopping street Devonshire Road could be closed to traffic next week (12-16th) as Thames Water carries out work.

Hounslow Highways said that there was waterpipe reinstatement work planned and they apologised for any inconvenience. It is understood that a resident is having a water supply piped to a first-floor flat.

Local shops and businesses are hoping the work will be speedily completed so that they do not lose trade. Deliveries are likely to be affected and cuts in water supply could impact on restaurants.

Hounslow Highways has said it will attempt to put a temporary diversion around the area so that the road can remain open while the main work takes place but according to Mike Moran of Top Hat, it will be difficult to do this due to the single lane design of the street.

He said he hoped they would find some way of putting down metal plates over the holes so traffic could still flow, otherwise there would be disruption to businesses while Thames Water carried out the work.

Traders would be asking the authorities and contractors to make sure there was no delay completing the work. If things did not go according to plan there could be major disruption, he said.

They had not been given any advance notice of whether water would be switched off and interruption of supply would affect his business as well as restaurants, he said.

"It's a busy street and its also an emergency route which needs to be kept open so it's important that the work is finished speedily."
