A crew from Chiswick's RNLI Lifeboat station at Chiswick Pier rescued a family from a island in the Thames after they became stranded there.

The two adults and a baby were unable to leave Chiswick Eyot, an island in the Thames near Hammersmith Bridge and called the London Coastguard for help.

A crew was launched from Chiswick and recovered the three landing them safely at Chiswick Pier.

The Chiswick incident was one of three that local stations had to deal with in the space of a few hours on Monday evening.

Steven Carson from London Coastguard said, This has been a busy evening for search and rescue units on the Thames, it certainly highlights the importance of having one central coordination centre for the command and control of dispatching the various marine units that are available to us here on the River Thames.

"People are reminded to check the tides when venturing out to those areas on the Thames that are accessible at low water. You can very quickly become cut off."

If you see anyone in trouble on the water, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
