Permission is being sought from Hounslow Council for a change of use which would allow an escape room company to open a branch on Chiswick High Road.
Escape London want to convert the first floor over Byron restaurant and have applied for a change of use. The site is occupied by a two storey building on the south side of Chiswick High Road The ground floor of the premises is occupied by Byron restaurant, however, the upper floor is currently vacant. The previous occupant was a dermatology clinic. Access to the first floor is gained via a side door from Linden Gardens.
Escape London has two existing escape room centres in the West 12 Centre in Shepherd’s Bush and in Shadwell.
An escape room is a game in which a team of players must discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks to get out of a room before a set time. In the Shepherd’s Bush branch, there is a Da Vinci room in which you can go on a search for the Holy Grail, an Area 51 room which concerns alien conspiracy theories, ‘The Cabin’ in which you are forced to take refuge after a camping trip goes wrong and the Overthrone room in which you compete to be King of Britain.
There would be 6 escape rooms within the premises, accommodating groups of between 2 - 5 persons for each. In addition, the layout includes a reception area, the ‘Gamemaster’ Area, washroom facilities, kitchen and additional space to be used for office space, staff rest rooms, storage etc.
Prices on the existing facilities range from £66 for 2 players to £132 for six and they are open from 10am to 10.30pm which is the same time applied for in the application.
The business would employ some 10 members of staff, 6 full time and 4 part time.
If you wish to comment on the application, Hounslow Council's planning reference is P/2019/3749.
We have asked Escape London for more information about their plans.
