A well-known small parade of shops along Chiswick High Road could be forced to close because of a new development of flats.

Popular restaurants Rice and Yupa Thai, as well as Domino Pizza and Post Box shop are under threat from the potential new development.

An application to demolish 309-317 Chiswick High Road and erect a five-storey building with residential units has been received by Hounslow Council's Planning department.

The five-storey building would provide 21 units, six one-bedroom, thirteen two-bedroom and two three-bedroom units. Commercial space and a basement car-park are also planned.

The proposal would mean the end of the two restaurants, pizza delivery and post-box shop.

One of the traders commented that with residential development on either side of their parade of businesses, it was inevitable that they would be under threat.

"It's sad, we've been here a long time and a lot of our customers are very upset."

The restaurant Hedone is not affected by the plan.
