Councillors voted unanimously to amend the ‘Goods Vehicles Only’ loading bay outside The Old Cinema to a ‘General’ loading bay at the last Chiswick Area Committee Planning Meeting.

A number of motorists complained about the council’s ‘Kafkaesque’ policies after falling foul of the ‘Goods Vehicles Only’ rule receiving PCNs whilst they were loading goods in the bay.

The Old Cinema itself joined in the campaign to have the bay altered to general loading bay thus enabling customers to collect goods without penalty.

An extension of the loading bay and change of designation to permit any vehicle to stop to load/unload was proposed and the decision was carried unanimously.

Also under discussion was a review of waiting and loading times on and around Turnham Green Terrace which had been carried out in response to complaints from bus operators. They claim that congestion at the junction of Turnham Green Terrace and Bath Road is a real issue for them. At Any Time waiting and peak hour loading restrictions were proposed.

Further consideration of this report was postponed after Councillor McGregor asked for additional information including the names of complainants, details of parking restrictions around St Michael and All Angels and the costs of implementing necessary works.

Cllr McGregor also asked Hounslow Council’s Satnam Sahota for a further more detailed report on the waiting and loading issues on Turnham Green Terrace itself.
