Hounslow Council has pledged to act after a significant number of noise complaints were made about a festival that was held at Chiswick Rugby Club last Sunday (8 August).

The organisers of the LDN 7’s Sport and Music Festival describe it as the sporting Glastonbury. It combines a rugby sevens tournament during the day with DJs and live music. There were tickets available for over 5,000 attendees over the two days and 100 sports teams are understood to have participated. Festival goers could pitch their own tents at the site or there were opportunities for glamping.

Acts included Solardo, GW Harrison, Switch Disco and Kruel Intentions.

The promotional material highlighted that social distancing was not required and fancy dress was encouraged.

Chiswick Rugby Club were not involved in the organisation of the event, LDN 7s had hired the site and received a licence for it from Hounslow Council.

There were not many reported complaints about the event on the Saturday evening but on Sunday the noise levels appear to have risen significantly starting at about 4pm. People could hear the music up until about 11.15pm across a two mile radius including Acton, Hammersmith and Mortlake.

The police received several calls during the evening and Cllr John Todd said he has been sent numerous complaints which he is following up adding that the organisers must have been aware of the nuisance they caused.

Cllr Kathrine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Communities and Climate Emergency, said, “Hounslow Council works closely with event organisers and partner organisations to ensure events operate safely and with minimal disruption to local residents through the Hounslow Safety Advisory Group. The organisers did work with the SAG in their planning and submitted a noise management plan which was reviewed by the council. However, we have however received a number of noise complaints regarding this event. Officers are investigating and the Council will be conducting a debrief with the organisers. Steps will be taken to improve arrangements to minimise noise disruption to residents for future events.”

We contacted LDN 7s for a comment but have not received a response.
