They Think It's All Over for the Italian Job

As England’s football team is about to begin its own Italian job, there is uncertainty about the future of The Italian Job bar at 13 Devonshire Road after a new restaurant submitted a planning application for its address.
Camile Thai Kitchen, which is a chain of franchises founded in Ireland focusing on delivery, has requested a change of use the ground floor unit from a drinking establishment to a mixed use of a restaurant with takeaway (P/2021/2644). It currently has six outlets in London including those at Barnes, Battersea, Clapham and Tooting Bec.
The application does not necessarily mean that The Italian Job will be closing as it is required that the applicant is also the occupant of a property to make a submission. We have contacted the Italian Job to confirm the future of the bar.
A document submitted with the application argues that the ‘cultural value’ of a bar at the location was attributable to Pickwicks and the Italian Job ‘does not hold any social significance’ as well as not being listed as an Asset of Community Value.
The Italian Job was opened in 2015 on the site of what used to be Pickwicks claiming to be the UK's first Italian craft beer pub. It was associated with Parma based brewer Birrificio del Ducato and was the first bar to be opened in what currently is a chain of four. The popularity of craft beer had been increasing in Italy as well as the UK and the bar in W4 was a regular destination for many Chiswick locals including the large Italian community.
