Three GPs’ practices in Chiswick are planning to merge it was announced this Thursday (14 September).

Registered patients at Wellesley Road, Grove Park and Chiswick Family Doctors received a text message informing them of the proposals.

An update on each of the three practices’ web sites says, “This will allow us to manage our collective services in a better and more efficient way. For patients, this will give access to a greater pool of clinicians, nursing staff and health care assistants. “

It also says that it is anticipated that there will be greater access to appointments, more proactive care, shorter call queues and more efficient handling of requests.

The merged practice will be called Chiswick Medical Practice and the update says it will continue to offer a full range of services from each site. Patients will still be able to be seen by their usual GPs and clinical staff. There will be a single new website from patients will be able to obtain information about the merged practice and its services.

According to information available online the Grove Park Surgery has 8640 registered patients and is currently served by seven doctors, Wellesley Road has 7843 registered patients and six GPs and Chiswick Family Doctors Practice has 4593 patients with three doctors.

This would mean that the merged practice could have in the vicinity of 20,000 people on its books.

Some existing patients have speculated that the merger is a preliminary move which will eventually result in the practice being consolidated in the new health centre being built on Dolman Road in Chiswick and which is expected to open in 2025.

The Practice Manager at Chiswick Family Doctors said, " I can confirm that current plans for the New Health Centre at Fisher's Lane do not include consolidating the three sites into one as the architectural plans were already drawn up before our merger and as I understand, they have no new money to change or expand the existing drawings."

The practice is currently based at the temporary site on Stamford Brook Road and will move into the new facility. Chiswick Health Practice and West4GPs also moved to Stamford Brook and remain separate practices.

Earlier this year the Wellesley Road Practice saw the retirement of Dr Burbridge after thirty five years. It is understood that a number of other doctors at practices within the proposed merger entity are considering retirement.
