After London 2012 chiefs opt for Dutch company to be Official Lager Supplier of the Olympic and Paralympic Games

Fuller's was good enough for David Cameron to present to the Chilean President Sebastian Piñera, but for the London 2012 according to the Games organisers who have appointed Heineken as the Official Lager Supplier of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Dutch brewer was chosen over London's only remaining traditional family operation, Chiswick's Fuller's Brewery, for the exclusive "pouring" rights to bars at Olympic venues.

Best known as the makers of the iconic London Pride, which has been presented as gifts to British troops and Chilean miners alike, Fullers say they are "disappointed" that 2012 organisers opted not to use a British brewery and go for a bigger international company instead.

London 2012 chief executive Paul Deighton defended the decision saying that Heineken already have major sponsorship deals in place including the UEFA Champions League and Heineken Cup.

Fuller's managing director John Roberts said: "London Pride IS the beer of London and everyone at our brewery in Chiswick, is looking forward to welcoming the world to our home city in 2012."
