Alleged incident happened off Chiswick High Road
Police are investigating "a possible sexual assault" that took place just off Chiswick High Road on Tuesday night (24 October). The area around a walkway (Windmill Passage) between Le Pain Quo restaurant and Kitchen & Pantry cafe was sealed off with tape today while an investigation was underway. Picture: Google Streetview The incident happened between 8.30 and 9.30 pm last night. A statement from the police said, "Officers from Hounslow are investigating a possible sexual assault which is reported to have taken place between 20:30hrs and 21:30hrs on Tuesday, 24 October on Chiswick High Road. A crime scene is in place. No arrests have been made." The alleged assault has again raised local concerns about crime in the Chiswick area. Local residents reported on our forum that anti-social behaviour has started up again in the area. The Chiswick Common area was the focus of anti social behaviour when gangs of youths gathered last April and police patrols had to be put in place in the afternoons. You can read our previous reports on the issue. A recent visit by Borough Commander Raj Kohli to Chiswick to discuss the closure of Chiswick Police Station, (which was then part of a public consultation ) heard from concerned residents who said there was a wave of crime and anti-social behaviour in Chiswick in recent months. They were worried that the closure of the police station would make matters worse. Borough Commander Kohli promised at that time to allocate a Police Inspector to oversee policing in Chiswick although he said crime statistics for the area were amongst the lowest in the borough despite the public perception that crime had increased. We have asked his office if any progress has been made on the appointment and will report back. The police station on the High Road recently closed for a week.
