Police investigate incident at Strand on the Green

A woman aged in her nineties was the victim of a handbag snatch on Sunday afternoon (19 February) outside her own front door in Chiswick.

The woman had just returned to her home at Strand on the Green shortly before 4.30pm and put her bag on the ground outside her front door as she prepared to go inside.

The suspect, described as "a male of large build, wearing dark and dirty clothing" approached and quickly grabbed her handbag before running off.

The victim was left in a shocked state after the incident. Local people came to her assistance and raised the alarm.

The police were called as well as an ambulance. The woman was treated and did not go to hospital.

A police spokesman said the suspect had carried out an opportunistic theft on the elderly woman as she was going into her home. He said it appeared to be an isolated incident.
