Police appeal for witnesses to incident near Bell & Crown pub

A woman was attacked and robbed by two men at Strand on the Green on Tuesday night (20 Jan).

The incident happened in the passageway beside the Bell & Crown pub at around 10.35pm.

It is understood that the woman, who is a local resident, was on her way home when the two men set upon her. The victim was approached from behind by the two suspects, pushed and held to the floor, and then robbed of jewellery and her handbag which included her mobile phone.

It is understood that the victim, who is aged in her forties and married with children, was uninjured in the attack but was very shaken.

Local people said they were shocked by the incident which took place in a quiet residential area close to the river.

Police have issued an appeal for information from anyone who may have been in the area and heard or seen anything around that time. They have also asked if anyone may have CCTV which might help identify the men.
