Sgt Dave Turtle is known as 'Dixon of Turnham Green'
Stg Dave Turtle is a well-known figure in Chiswick High Road and this week has written about his week.
"I seem to have spent most of the week dealing with several beggars who despite being asked to move on continue to annoy pedestrians and local residents. They are not homeless and one of them is even living in a local hostel ! I am now considering using new Anti Social Behaviour powers to drive this problem off our streets. I appreciate it is very compelling to give money to beggars but it would be better to fund local homelessness charities like the Salvation Army to develop more supported housing. The local MP has even been contacted by a resident regarding this problem.
I was relieved to see that there were no incidents of drunkeness or assault or damage from any of our public houses on New Year's Eve. This may have been due to the sight of my bright yellow jacket in many of the pubs earlier that evening and a closer working relationship with door staff. A big thanks to all our licensees.
This new year will see further challenges to local police resources following the atrocities in Paris and the risk management issues this raises. I have no intention of doing away with my " Dixon of Turnham Green " style of community foot patrol as the personal approach increases public confidence.
I wish you all a peaceful and safe New Year."
