Commendation for Raman who chased 'specs' thief
A local shop assistant who was called a "hero" after he chased a thief around Chiswick, is to be honoured with a police award. Raman Johal (22) from Hounslow, spotted the man taking three pairs of expensive Ray-Ban glasses from the shop of Chiswick Eyewear on Chiswick High Road and gave chase, while alerting police on his mobile phone as he ran. Superintendant Sally Benatar has now invited Raman to their next Hounslow Borough Police Commendation Ceremony to receive a formal thank you and a commendation from the Borough Commander Carl Bussey. The ceremony will take place on November 22nd, and his family, friends and colleagues are also invited. Raman back at work again Said Superintendant Benatar: "Raman's actions were fantastic and we are grateful to him for taking swift and decisive action to follow the thief, to call police and to keep up with him until police arrived. The thief pleaded guilty and has received a conditional discharge for 12 months. Raman was a semi-professional footballer for Staines Town before he had to retire following a knee injury and operation. He joined the shop about two years ago where he is a sales supervisor. http://www.fashioneyewear.co.uk October 29, 2013 |
