Thieves distract elderly volunteer outside Sainsbury's
Police are searching for a group of young women who stole a Poppy collection box outside Sainsbury's in Essex Place. this week.
It is understood the women distracted the collector, a 74-year old woman, before making off with the box and its contents.The stand was outside the supermarket entrance.
The Chairman of the Chiswick British Legion, councillor Paul Lynch said he was "utterly disgusted" with the theft.
The incident happened last Tuesday.
A number of thefts of collection boxes in Brentford are also under investigation.
A spokesman for the central office of the British Legion said that they had heard of the incidents and condemned them.
The small number of thefts should not detract from the great work undertaken by volunteers collecting for veterans, and the support of the public , he said.
