Local police have been knocking on doors in some areas of Chiswick this week warning residents of a spate of burglaries where access is gained via the letterbox.

"We've seen a few of these burglaries recently," an officer told ChiswickW4.com. "An arm or other tool is used through the letterbox to slip the lock on the inside."

The size of your letterbox is a factor as is whether you make a habit of double locking your front door, have a burglar alarm or use a chain.

In an emergency always dial 999, in all other cases call Non-emergency number - 0300 123 1212.
