A 57-year-old man from Chiswick has been banned from attending football matches after running onto the pitch to celebrate QPR scoring.

Anthony Dixon of Beverley Road was at the game between QPR and Peterborough at the POSH Stadium on Saturday 23 October last year.

He leapt over the advertising boards and onto the pitch to join the players in celebrating, ignoring security officers who tried to persuade him to return to the stands. He was then arrested at the stadium.

He admitted a charge of going onto a playing area at a football match (pitch encroachment) at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 21 January and this month received a three-year Football Banning Order (FBO) as well as being fined £330.

He is now forbidden from attending any football match in the UK during this time. He will also be required to surrender his passport during England international fixtures abroad.

He was one of three fans who were given FBOs including 18-year-old Jay Bates who was found with a smoke grenade.

Mark Wood, Dedicated Football Officer for Cambridgeshire Constabulary, said, “There is absolutely no place for this behaviour at football matches which are family environments. The anti-social behaviour of a minority of people tarnishes the reputation of most supporters who just want to turn up and watch the match.

“Alcohol consumption has played a part in all of these three cases, therefore whilst I do not want to discourage fans from having a good time and enjoying themselves, I would urge people to be responsible and consider how it may affect their actions and judgement.”
