19-year-old from Southall detained by armed police near tube station
The man arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning (2 March) after armed police seized two machine guns in Chiswick has been charged. 19-year-old David Longhor of Villiers Road in Southall was detained near Chiswick Park tube station when officers recovered two Scorpion machine guns and 40 rounds of ammunition. Eye-witnesses report seeing a large number of officers and unmarked police cars at the scene. The arrest was made as part of an operation by officers from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command and Specialist Firearms Command. The suspect was charged on Wednesday, 3 March with two counts of possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 3 March.
Detective Chief Superintendent Craig Turner said, “The machine guns and ammunition seized could have undoubtedly led to the loss of life had they not been recovered in this operation. Tackling violent crime remains our absolute priority and operations like this are crucial in removing lethal weapons from the streets and restricting the ability of those intent on causing violence. This is one of our main focuses as we approach coming out of lockdown and we will be relentless in our activity. “Anyone who believes they can walk the streets of London with horrific weapons in their possession should think again. We will continue to make London a hostile place for gangs to operate in and carry firearms.”
