Drunk driver Alex Green videoed ramming vehicles with a Jeep
A drunk driver who left a trail of destruction on Grove Park Road last July has been jailed for over three years. 34-year-old Alex Green from Southend-on-Sea apparently deliberately crashed into ten other parked vehicles in a black Jeep in the early hours of 5 July. Residents were woken by the sound of crunching metal and screeching tyres as the Jeep hit a car on the North side of Grove Park Road before careening over the street and ramming another car across the pavement and into a gate post. The worst of the damage was done between house numbers 42 and 22 . One man who came out in his night clothes when he saw what was happening started through rubbish bins at the Jeep in an attempt to stop Green. One quick witted resident jumped into his Mercedes driving down the pavement seconds before the Jeep screeched into the space he left behind. According to one witness, at this point the steering of the Jeep was so badly damaged that it could no longer drive in a straight line. A witness said the driver repeatedly rammed cars up the street in an attempt to flee the scene. The Jeep’s front wheels were splayed apart and one totally locked up so that it continually swerved to its right. After each smash he reversed and tried again.
On receiving a number of 999 calls from residents several police units arrived on the scene ‘within minutes’. They found that Green had cause extensive damage to vehicles, roadside furniture and property at the location. Green attempted to flee the scene on foot but was detained and subsequently charged with various driving offences along with Possession of a Class ‘A’ drug and bailed.
The post charge investigation was taken on by officers from Response Team D from Hounslow Police who were contacted the next morning by the owner of the black Jeep to report it stolen from Oxford shortly before Green rammed the parked vehicles. A charge of aggravated vehicle taking was subsequently added by Crown Prosecution Service. Following an extensive investigation, with support from residents of Grove Park Road who attended court, Green pled guilty to all offences at Isleworth Crown Court in January 2019. Green was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on 8 March to 39 months imprisonment and banned from driving for 68 months. Inspector Peal, Hounslow Response Team D Inspector said, “This is great investigative work by Hounslow D Team officers to apprehend and charge this suspect for multiple offences. It’s brilliant to see such robust sentencing for a crime that had the potential to put many innocent lives at risk.” March 30, 2019 |
