The latest figures for Covid-19 infections show there has been a significant increase in the Chiswick area.

Data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) for 26 August to 1 September indicate there were at least twenty new infections in the W4 post code area.

This is disappointing given that recently there has been a very low rate of infection in the area. In the week from 12-18 August the ONS showed the number of cases in all parts of Chiswick in the range 0-2.

The ONS divide Chiswick into Middle Super Output Areas with a standard population number in each. The largest number of cases was in the Chiswick Park area the coverage of which includes the central High Road district which had 7 infections. Chiswick South West, which includes Strand on the Green had four cases, as did Chiswick North West, which includes parts of Acton Green. Chiswick North East had five positive tests reported.

The week before that borough public health officials were prompted to issue a warning about a ‘large rise’ in the borough with Chiswick specifically mentioned even though the data suggested there were only three cases. For the latest week the Chiswick has had more cases that the rest of the borough combined.

Council leader Steve Curran made no mention of the increase in cases in Chiswick in his weekly Covid-19 bulletin. He said, “Last week, I was pleased to report that after the localised spikes in coronavirus cases we returned to the previous low and steady rate. However, these localised spikes serve as a reminder that we cannot become complacent. We know that cases can rapidly increase, and the virus can spread without symptoms, so it is vital we continue to do everything possible to stop the spread of the virus.”

A mobile testing unit is set up every three days in a car park at 274 Hanworth Road, Hounslow, TW3 3TY the entrance is opposite the Passage to India Restaurant . If you have symptoms of coronavirus, you are urged to get tested. You and your household should also self-isolate and only leave the house to go and get tested.

If you are a Keyworker, you are entitled to be tested regularly, even if you do not have symptoms, to prevent asymptomatic spread of coronavirus

The centre usually operate from 10.30am-3.30pm. You need to book an appointment online before you go to the site.

Forthcoming dates the testing facility is open are Monday 7 September, Thursday 10 September, Sunday 13 September, Monday 28 September

Appointments are open from 6pm the night before the testing opens e.g. if the Mobile Testing Unit is on a Sunday, appointments open on the Saturday at 6pm.

You can book an appointment at the testing site by visiting www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119. When you book an appointment, you’ll be asked to provide your postcode and other details. You will then be provided with available testing sites close to you.

Some Chiswick residents have complained about the distance to the borough testing centre which people without cars say is inaccessible to them. Cllr John Todd is in discussions with Chiswick House and Gardens Trust about setting up a test centre there.

The latest publish figures on Covid-19 deaths show that 32 people have died in the Chiswick area with just four since the end of April.
