There is a new petition posted by Laura Sophie Ware on the Hounslow Council website at petitions.hounslow.gov.uk/daycentrechis/

The petition reads: "We the undersigned petition Hounslow Council to reverse their decision to close the Chiswick Day Centre. We also call the Lead Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health to attend a open public meeting to explain his decisions to close the centre and to answer questions from the community".

Local MP Mary Macleod has also called on the Council to reconsider their decision. She said: “The Chiswick Day Centre is the only centre of its kind in my constituency. It offers vital care for the elderly and frail, often preventing the need for hospitalisation thereby saving greater costs and trauma.

"The expected increase in illnesses, such as dementia over the foreseeable future, as well as an aging population will increase the demand for such services.

"I have received many positive stories from constituents about the comfort this centre has brought to the lives of patients and their relatives. There is another facility in Heston, but why was it Chiswick and not Heston that has been planned for closure? The Heston day centre is not easily accessible for the mainstream service users of Chiswick, who do not have their own means of transport.

"Chiswick Day Centre has recently been refurbished and it seems such a waste to let it go when it is enjoyed by so many. I would like community groups to be given the opportunity to put forward their ideas for keeping the Day Centre open in new and innovative ways.
