Chiswick-based singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor has applied for a Stalking Protection Order (SPO) against a local man accused of sending her hundreds of gifts.

39-year-old Nishil Patel, also from Chiswick, is also accused of sending her a series of messages through social media.

Ms Ellis-Bextor, aged 42, has applied for the order which has become an option due to recently reduced legislation. An SPO can be used in cases where the threshold to commence criminal proceedings has not been met or to complement the prosecution of a stalking offence.

A hearing was due to be held on Tuesday 15 June at Westminster Magistrates’ Court the third time the case was listed but Mr Patel failed to attend.

According to the Sun newspaper the police did not summon Mr Patel and the judge concluded that he may have been unaware of the application for the SPO.

The case was adjourned until 23 June.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.
