Alden Ehrenreich stayed in the area during filming of new Star Wars Movie
He may be from a galaxy far far away and a long time ago but you would expect someone who claims navigation as a key skill to have a basic grasp of London geography. However, Alden Ehrenreich, who is playing Han Solo in the new movie in the Star Wars franchise seems to believe Chiswick is not actually in London despite staying here while the film was being made in the UK. In a recent interview with ShortList magazine, the actor is quoted as saying, “When I was filming over here, I didn’t end up spending an awful lot of time in London. That’s part of the thing with living in Chiswick. I was close to Pinewood Studios and it was peaceful to come back to, but it wasn’t actual London.” He was speaking of his regret about not getting to the theatre as often as he would have liked when staying in London. Every free evening he had he would travel from Chiswick to see plays managing to catch Hedda Gabler at the National and the Ferryman. He went along with his co-star Emilia Clarke to Mary Stuart at the Almeida. He told ShortList, “Whenever I’m here I try to see as much as I can, because it’s half the price of Broadway and the quality is just as good.” He was able to walk along Chiswick High Road unnoticed during his stay here. His best known role before taking on the part made globally famous by Harrison Ford was as a dopey cowboy actor in the Coen Brother’s Hail, Caesar! Those days are likely to be passed with Solo: A Star Wars Story due to go on general release this week. The film is the origin story of the character and has a star-studded supporting cast including Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover and Paul Bettany. Donald Glover will be coming to the Chiswick area this Summer as Childish Gambino, the headline act in the Lovebox Festival in Gunnersbury Park. May 25, 2018
