Party leader fails to recognise Labour supporting TV celebrities
Just over a week after winning the support of the local constituency party for his leadership Jeremy Corbyn may have managed to alienate two Labour supporters based in Chiswick. The Labour leader was appearing on the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire show with rival Owen Smith when they were both posed a series of general knowledge questions. When shown a picture of Declan Donnelly and Ant McPartlin he was unable to name them even when told they were Geordie TV personalities. When told who they were he said he would offer them an apology and said, "I hope they'll be happy about this. They sent a letter of support.” Ant and Dec have described themselves as staunch Labour supporters but were critical of the party under the leadership of Ed Milliband. They later hit back in a humorous way at Jerermy Corbyn on Twitter by claiming not to know who he was either.
Jeremy Corbyn During the show undecided Labour Party supporters gave their verdict on the candidates after a leadership debate. Despite the snub to two of the UK’s National Treasures when the panel were asked who they would be supporting after the debate there was a decisive switch to Mr Corbyn. August 20, 2016
