Upgraded civil partnership with Alice Arnold in quiet ceremony
Clare Balding has revealed on TV at the weekend that she and Alice Arnold recently got married. Talking to Jonathan Ross, the Chiswick-based presenter told how she and her wife decided to formalise their union in a low-key ceremony at the same place they celebrated their civil partnership in 2006. Clare told ChiswickW4.com, "We went to Richmond registry office. It was just a piece of paper that converted our civil partnership to marriage." At this same time the marriage was officially backdated to 2006 when the civil partnership was first formed. The ceremony actually took place some time ago and the couple decided that proceedings should carried out without any fuss. The first time they celebrated their union Clare and Alice had a party at Chiswick house but this time there were no guests with just the two of them turning up to sign the document. She told Jonathan Ross, “It's just about knowing that you can and knowing that you can say ‘I'm married', and nobody's going to think that's married in inverted commas, no that's actually married. " Clare said later on Twitter, "Some really lovely messages on the 'news' of our wedding. I had no idea so many people didn't know we'd done it - thank you for your kindness." April 5, 2015 |
