Camper Van Blocks the Hogarth Flyover |

Width restrictions ignored again as vehicle gets stuck on ramp
A camper van has blocked the Hogarth Flyover in Chiswick this Thursday evening (28 May). The vehicle seemingly ignored signs and bollards advising of the width restriction on the bridge and could no longer proceed having got half way up the ramp. It is not clear whether the van became wedged in or broke down on the incline. An eye witness reports seeing the van hit the barriers and then pause before carrying on up the slope. The police came and towed it down despositing it at nearby the bus stop. This caused a blockage of the A316 Hogarth Flyover (Northbound) at the junction of Burlington Lane. Traffic was diverted via the Hogarth Roundabout. Earlier this year a double decker coach belonging to National Express was seen crossing the flyover. The driver scraped the side of their vehicle when they went through the width restrictions at the entry to the bridge which should prevent any vehicle above 6ft 6 inches wide from crossing. The bridge has a 3 ton weight restriction and the coach would have been at least four times over the limit.. The Hogarth Flyover was meant to be a temporary solution when it was built in the early 1970s but plans for a permanent replacement were shelved and the steel frame bridge remains in place. It has recently been refurbished.
