Local roads at a standstill as M4 is closed westbound at Chiswick Roundabout

An accident on the elevated section of the M4 near Chiswick Roundabout necessitated the closure of the motorway westbound this evening (Friday 7th June).

The M4 was closed between junction 1 (Chiswick Roundabout) and junction 2 (Brentford). There are reports that a van hit the barriers of the central reservation above Chiswick Roundabout. The road reopened at about 8pm but traffic remains heavy in the area.

At the height of the jams traffic tailed back as far as Knightsbridge on the A4 and local roads in the Chiswick area were gridlocked.
