Community Bulb Planting Aims to Brighten Up Beaconsfield Gardens |
Spring flowers hoped for at green space on Acton Lane
This Saturday (22 October) a group of residents came together to help a community bulb planting organised by Abundance London. Spring bulbs were planted across Beaconsfield Gardens, the green along Acton Lane just off South Parade behind the petrol station. In past few years it has been somewhat neglected, but around 25 people turned up to plant the first of thousands of bulbs which should bloom next year. First stones were removed and holes were dug to enable the planting. 4,500 mixed daffs and narcissi, 500 snowdrops, 500 scilla and 500 crocuses. The planting continues next weekend, Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes (29 and 30 October), from 11am-2pm. This session will see the planting of some of the smaller bulbs (crocus, snowdrop, scilla) at the thinner end of the park near to the garage. If you plan to come along, bring your own spades, trowels, gloves. Local residents Peter and Kate Evans donated the funds to buy all the bulbs and Jen Thorndycraft, a local gardener (Marlborough Garden Design) organised the planting. They were joined by the three councillors representing the local ward. Karen Liebreich of Abundance London said, “Later in the week a corporate group will be coming to paint the drab low fence, newly fixed by Ealing Council. With many thanks to all those who turned out, including our local councillors.”
Councillor Gary Busuttil said, “Liberal Democrats say that it was wonderful to see so many locals helping out and it was tough to remove the rocks to ensure the bulbs could be planted deep enough. I also would like to thank Abundance London who organised the event as well as the professional gardener who came to help and direct us all.” This page is sponsored by Rocks Lane who support community initiatives in Chiswick.
