The relaunch of the Tabard Theatre will begin in earnest this September with a one-off production of a play starring Dame Sian Phillips on 25 September.

She will be appearing alongside Stephen Greif, who is perhaps best known for his role as Travis in Blake’s 7 as well as his work with the Royal Shakespeare Company , in Tears, Treachery… and Just A Little Murder which is written and directed by David Stuttard and produced by Simon McKay.

The two actors will give voice to male and female figures in Greek literature as they experience love, desire, death and a wish for vengeance.

Tickets are not on sale yet but if you visit the theatre’s new web site you can sign up to its email newsletter to be notified.

The theatre closed unexpectedly in March but the landlord, pub company Greene King, has installed a management company that includes Simon Reilly who ran the theatre for over a decade up to 2019. Along with his wife Sarah, he has set up a company called Take Note which has been given a ten-year lease on the venue.

The previous management, a company called Sightline which was run by Mark ‘Fred’ Perry, rebranded the theatre the Chiswick Playhouse but it will now be officially known as Theatre at the Tabard.

The new managements says that there will be no major changes to the kind of productions staged with the popular warm-up comedy nights, which often feature major names like Al Murray, to be continued. Some pre-Edinburgh shows are likely to be staged next month with theatrical productions beginning in September and a family friendly show for the Christmas holidays.
