Chiswick Playhouse Launches Crowdfunder To Ensure Survival
Local theatre missed out on last round of government culture funding

The Chiswick Playhouse is aiming to raise £35,000 to be able to keep on putting on productions through the winter months.
The last six months have been extremely challenging for the venue formerly known as the Tabard Theatre and, with a possible lockdown looming again, the prospects remain bleak.
A spokesperson for the theatre said, “As with thousands of other people across our industry, we have been fighting to keep going while the restrictions make it so hard for theatre to survive. Our small team have been working hard to ensure Chiswick Playhouse can produce socially distanced events and continue to provide high quality theatre for our local audiences when they so desperately need it. “
The Theatre was recently informed that it did not get awarded an Arts Council Cultural Recovery Grant which it describes as a huge setback.
Although it has reopened it must operate with far fewer seats and only 32 people are allowed in to see the shows.
They say, “We are determined to keep going and get through this next bump in the road for our beautiful little theatre. We have been so grateful for all the help we’ve had so far. We really don’t want to ask…but...we urgently need your help to safeguard our future.”
The theatre needs to raise £35,000 to keep operating through to spring. All money raised will go towards the costs of the building and staff allowing it to stay open and enable opportunities to work for those that need it, space for people to use and create new productions.

They have recently announced a series of Christmas concerts featuring stars of the West End. Rogers & Hammerstein, Sondheim, Bernstein and Coward abound alongside a Bleak Midwinter and a Little Town Of Bethlehem.
With a free glass of mulled wine hopefully there will still be a chance to get into the Christmas spirit at the Chiswick Playhouse. There are shows on December 4, 5, 11, 12 and 22 starting at 8pm. Tickets cost £19.50.
