Conservative Party Mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey visited Chiswick this Saturday (1 June) to talk to traders and listen to local views about the planned cycle highway. He was accompanied by Greater London Assembly (GLA) candidate Nick Rogers, who is hoping win the South West seat in the next elections. A team from the local Conservative Party, including councillors, party members and former MP Mary Macleod, met Mr. Bailey who is challenging the current Mayor Sadiq Khan in the 2020 Mayoral election. He has campaigned vigorously on the need to reduce knife crime in London. Mr. Bailey met many residents on the High Road and heard their views on the proposed cycle highway (formerly known as the CS9) . A stall with a petition opposing the TfL plan for a segregated highway along Chiswick High Road was placed outside Marks and Spencer.
He met several traders on Turnham Green Terrace, including Philip Neal of Philip Neal chocolatier where they talked about business rates reform; Rodney Macken of Mackens butchers who spoke about the need to improve footfall. He also chatted to Andrew Harman of The Eye Studio on Chiswick High Road, who gave his views about the injustice of the upwards only rent clause in retail leases. Later Mr. Bailey tweeted, "A brilliant morning (literally) campaigning in Turnham Green ward with @njronline @joannabiddolph, Mary McLeod & the @hbiconservative. "Thank you for your support in sharing my plan to tackle serious violent crime and raise prosperity here in London"
