Waitrose Wants To Hear From Charities In Chiswick |
Green token scheme scrapped but store will still support local good causes
Waitrose & Partners Chiswick is asking local charities and groups to get in touch about their Community Matters scheme. Every month they will be giving £1,000 to be shared between three local charities. Previously money from the scheme was distributed based on the number of green tokens given at the checkout that customers choose to allocate to their favourite charity by depositing the tokens in labelled boxes at the store exit, allowing them to learn about and vote for the cause they would like to support. In light of the coronavirus outbreak, to protect staff and customers, the John Lewis Partnership will no longer be offering these tokens at the checkouts. However they are continuing to support three local charities each month and will be splitting the total donation amount equally between the three causes. Waitrose’s Community Matters scheme launched in 2008. Nationally, Waitrose has donated over £30m through Community Matters to more than 90,000 local good causes.
