A local man is joining the Board of National Trustees of a leading charity. Bosik Gharapetian was recently elected to the post at The British Polio Fellowship. He brings a wealth of experience from the fields of management, consultancy, human resources, and banking and finance to the role, as he looks to play his part in helping the charity continue its progress following its 75th Anniversary year.

“Being elected by the members of such a wonderful charity that has not only helped myself, but many people like me who have suffered from Polio and now suffer from Post Polio Syndrome (PPS) is truly an honour,” said Bosik. “The resources, support, advice and overall representation that The British Polio Fellowship provides for its members is absolutely excellent and in my current role I intend to ensure that this hard work continues.”

Despite contracting Polio at the age of six months old, Bosik only learned of The British Polio Fellowship and its work in 2007 and was impressed with what he saw. Latterly suffering from PPS, Bosik overcame the challenges of Polio he contracted in childhood to gain a university degree in Chemical Engineering, and a Masters in Software Engineering. He then went on to enjoy a long career working for some major players in the banking, transportation and electronics industries.

Unveiled as a Trustee at the charity’s AGM in Cardiff, this is not Bosik’s first experience as a charity trustee, having already worked with a local charity in London which supports vulnerable and under privileged community members.

Ted Hill MBE, CEO of The British Polio Fellowship, explains why members voted for him as an obvious choice: “Bosik brings professional experience and acumen with him that will clearly be a benefit to the charity as he looks to serve our membership,” said Ted. “His previous role as Trustee for his local community charity also shows that he knows what is involved with the role, and I’m sure this influenced the vote in his favour. I’m personally really looking forward to working with him, and the other new trustees, too.”

The British Polio Fellowship is a charity dedicated to helping, supporting and empowering those in the UK living with the late effects of Polio and Post Polio Syndrome (PPS). It provides information, advocacy, welfare and support to enable its members to live full independent and integrated lives and works to develop worldwide alliances with other Polio and Post Polio groups for the mutual benefit of its members.
