A talk at Chiswick Horticultural And Allotment Society
The English are deeply in love with nature. Millions of us spend time gardening, birdwatching, fishing, hillwalking; tens of millions have pets and bird-feeders. This topic will be discussed on Saturday January 30th at a talk entitled ' The English Love Affair with Nature', given by Ian Alexander from 10am - 12.30pm. The talk will discuss how this came about, starting in the 18th century, the books that triggered this interest, and how it grew through popular movements, from animal cruelty and conservation onwards. Ian Alexander has been in love with nature all his life. He now spends his time writing about nature, gardening, volunteering at his local nature reserve, giving talks, and occasionally making cakes for open days. It takes place at the Chiswick Horticultural and Allotment Society Trading Hut (Staveley Road across from the Chiswick School). Tickets cost £3.00 including tea and biscuits Space is limited, so contact editor@growchiswick.org if you would like to attend January 23, 2016 |
