Final Span Lifted At Chiswick Park Footbridge |
Project to link business park with Chiswick Park tube station will complete in December The final span has been lifted onto the 135 m footbridge at Chiswick Park, as the project forges ahead on schedule for its December opening. Chiswick Park, the business campus home to some of the world’s leading companies, announced today (October 9th) that the new 135m public footbridge completed its steel erection, with the final 140 tons section lifted into position on Sunday 7th October. Construction work began last year after an agreement was signed between Chiswick Park, Hounslow and Ealing Councils, Network Rail and Transport for London. Construction of the bridge deck will continue this month alongside electricity installation, lights and landscaping. The project is on track for completion in December 2018. ‘The countdown has begun for the long-awaited inauguration of the Chiswick Park footbridge. With over 9,000 guests working daily and over 80,000 visitors per year, providing easy access to our business campus is essential. With the opening of the footbridge, Chiswick Park will be immediately connected on each side by Underground and Overground networks. This will make a huge difference to both workers and local residents’, said Matt Coulson, CEO Chiswick Park Enjoy-Work. The introduction of the Elizabeth Line at Ealing Broadway next year will also improve Chiswick Park’s connectivity. Earlier this year two connecting spans of bridge were built on-site, and lifted into place over the railway in June. A 1,500 ton crawler crane was delivered to allow the operation. The third bridge span was built on site in July and it is this one that has been now craned into position. The new pedestrian bridge will reduce walking time between the Business Park and Chiswick Park Tube Station to just four minutes. It will also improve the connection to the wider transport network with the opening of the Elizabeth Line at Ealing Broadway also due to launch in December.
