Gyratory was closed and transport stopped following suspect device at tube station
Area sealed off around tube station Hammersmith Broadway was closed to traffic this afternoon (4 October) due to a security alert. Two controlled explosions took place at around 3pm of what was believed to be a suspect package in a bin near the tube station entrance. People waiting in Lyric Square Services were suspended at the tube station and District and Piccadilly lines were not stopping. Staff at shops in the Broadway were evacuated. Workers in local office blocks were advised not to stand near windows. All surrounding streets were also sealed off and hundreds of office workers and shoppers gathered around in Lyric Square while waiting for the area to be cleared. Traffic queues built up as vehicles including buses were stopped before the police cordon. A police helicopter also flew over the scene. The all-clear was given around 3.15 and people were allowed to move about freely. Routes 9 10 27 72 220 283 295 and 391 were subject to diversion and delays. The Hammersmith Gyratory reopened and normal tube services to Hammersmith on the District and Piccadilly line resumed at around 3.30pm.
