Blossom Day W4 will be returning this spring after the pandemic required its cancellation in 2020.

Set up in October 2019 by local residents to celebrate and help preserve the cherry blossom trees along Staveley Road, this year’s event will be Japanese themed and held online rather than the hoped for street party.

The main activities will be held on Sunday 11 April with a return of the Haiku and Poem Competition for those under the age of 19, which was such a success last year. Details of how to enter are already online and submissions must be returned by 26 March 26. Winning entries from last year can also be found on the website.

There will also be a Haiku workshop this year which will be run by Iliyana Stoyanova from the British Haiku Society. This will take place via Zoom on the morning of Saturday 10 April. Full details can be found here and its is open to adults and children and is free of charge. Places are limited so follow the Eventbrite link to book now.

Further details of the festival will be announced in due course.

Over the last 18 months local residents have looked after the avenue of Prunus Kanzan trees, watering when necessary and regularly tidying the tree pits. The number of trees has been increased by eight to 99 over the course of the year due to close working with Hounslow Highways. Residents are also grateful to local tree champions for this as well as the help provided by Good Gym Hounslow.
