A community event to celebrate Staveley Road's avenue of 91 cherry trees
Staveley Road in Chiswick is blessed with a beautiful avenue of 91 cherry trees. These were planted in 1932 soon after the houses were built and the glorious pink spring blossom has given joy to successive generations. A new group has been formed which is planning a Japanese-themed Blossom Day Festival in April. The closure of Staveley Road has been approved for either 19th or 26th April for a Street Party to run from midday to 3pm. The exact date will be confirmed in February when they will have a better idea of the likely blossom date. The area covered will run from east Fitzroy Crescent to Burlington Lane. Blossom Day W4, coordinated by a Steering Group, was set up in October 2019 by local residents to celebrate our trees and ensure they survive and thrive in perpetuity. Members of the Steering Group include Councillor Sam Hearn, who lives round the corner from Staveley Road, and Grove Park resident Dr. Karen Liebreich MBE from Abundance London. They say: "We will announce all our plans over the coming weeks but we can promise you family fun, including creative and artistic activities for all ages, live music and other entertainment, plus lots of wonderful food and drink with a Japanese twist."
