'Single more powerful voice' as Community Group merges with Bedford Park Society
Members of the Bedford Park Community Group have voted unanimously at a Special General Meeting to support the proposal that the Community Group be formally dissolved. The Community Group has now joined forces with the Bedford Park Society, combining respective skills and experience, while ensuring that the full breadth of interests and needs of respective members are respected. This follows six months of working closely with the Bedford Park Society during which members of the Community Group’s Management Committee were co-opted onto the Society’s Executive Committee and a number of other key committees.
Hugh Johnson, Chair of the Bedford Park Community Group said: “There was general agreement from our members that by working together with the Bedford Park Society we can provide a single more powerful voice that better serves the needs of our respective members. Our experience of working more closely together has already demonstrated our increased effectiveness in responding to the issues members consider important.” Recently, the Bedford Park Society introduced more regular email updates for members, covering relevant local developments and the many aspects of the Society’s work. It has also launched a ‘new look’ website. As well as covering the history of Bedford Park and the Society’s role in conservation, the website has been designed to make it easier for people to find answers to their queries and information about the many different projects underway.
Helen Jameson, Chair of the Bedford Park Society commented: “While continuing to maintain the Society’s core work to protect and enhance the amenities and architectural quality of the area, the fresh support and perspective from the Bedford Park Community Group has increased our capacity to tackle issues and implement our plans to modernise and improve the way we work.” She added: “We are most grateful to those members of the Bedford Park Community Group’s Management Committee and their Road Representatives who have been working with the Society and for the contribution they have already made. We are now able to cover the wider Bedford Park area and hope to welcome many of the Community Group’s members as new members of the Society in the coming months.” To find out more about membership of the Bedford Park
