Buy from local artists as they display their work in their homes
The weekend of 17-19 June provides a unique opportunity for the public to visit up to 70 local artists in their home-based studios. The event is now well established in the cultural calendar of West London and hugely popular, attracting new artists and visitors every year. Sculpture by Humphrey Bangham Artists at Home is one of the earliest schemes of its kind, started by the late Mary Fedden and Julian Trevelyan in 1973. They were both painters and printmakers but now AAH also includes sculptors, ceramicists, photographers, sculptors, jewellers, textile and fashion designers. There is something for everyone, and it is perfect for the whole family. Children are welcome and often delight in asking about the work. With Sunday 19 June being Father’s Day, the event will provide a family day out with a difference. Bracelet by Annette O' Sullivan Some people like to visit studios in their immediate neighbourhood – others research the artists they want to see beforehand, using the printed studio guide, sponsored by John D Wood & Co. Ltd. t “The wonderful thing about Artists At Home is the diversity,” says Jeff Hoare, an artist of international repute and one of the earliest to take part. “The works cover every type of medium imaginable and the artists themselves have such varied experience. It is really unusual for people to be able to talk directly with an artist in their own home or studio, it makes for a truly special weekend.”
“Affordable” obviously means different things to different people, but there is a huge range of prices, from a few pounds to several thousands. Admission is free, refreshments are usually available and although artists are always pleased to make a sale, browsing is very welcome. www.artistsathome.net is the best way of making an informed decision about which studios to visit.
