Sophie inspires students at Chiswick School
Chiswick Park engineering apprentice Sophie Sweeney went back to her former school, Chiswick School this week to inspire Year 10 and 11 students about the opportunities of an apprenticeship.
Sophie’s talk formed part of Chiswick School’s programme for National Apprenticeship Week- which is the time when all eyes are on apprenticeships and raising the profile amongst employers, students, teachers, parents and the media.
Sophie was interviewed by Chiswick School’s Careers Advisor Elizabeth Lawrence, in front of more than 400 students, to explain how she got into her apprenticeship with Chiswick Park’s estate management team, Enjoy-Work; about what it’s like doing her job day to day and what the future holds.
Elizabeth Lawrence said: "Chiswick students loved hearing from Sophie. Having attended here so recently herself, Sophie is an excellent role model for students planning their own careers. Year 11 were most impressed when Sophie told us that the college course she is taking can lead to a part-time degree in electronic engineering. As a result of the visit, we are already seeing more students looking to explore the apprenticeship route."
Sophie Sweeney said: “It was nerve wracking at first seeing hundreds of eyes all staring up at me! It’s really important that students know as much as they can about apprenticeships. I really like the fact that I am earning whilst learning: that’s the great advantage of an apprenticeship.”
