Dangerous Wall By Acton Lane Bridge Removed |

Four year campaign to improve safety finally sees desired outcome
A wall that jutted out onto the pavement forcing pedestrians towards the traffic on Acton Lane has been removed after a four year campaign. The construction had been described as ‘an accident waiting to happen’ as it narrowed the pavement at a point where visibility was poor for oncoming vehicles. The issue was complex because, according to the local Liberal Democrats, the owner of the land did not want to sell some of his land or allow the work to go ahead. Along with other local residents they ultimately persuaded him to let the council do the work which will make it safer for children and others to go from Chiswick to Acton on the footpath. Southfield Councillors Gary Busuttil, Gary Malcolm and Andrew Steed, arranged for money from the Ward Forum budget to fund 60% of the work needed to demolish and stabilise the wall.
The remaining 40% was funded from the South Acton Ward Forum budget since the bridge borders both Southfield and South Acton wards and the decision to proceed was taken in May. The Councillors also credited the work done by local residents including Duncan Campbell, Stephen Koltai, Tej Chauhan and Peter Rodgers as well as Council Officers. Councillor Gary Busuttil said, "It has taken four years to get these changes made. Liberal Democrats believe that the work will result in a wider and safer walkway for pedestrians, particularly children, who pass this area every day on their way to and from school."
