Sir Peter Blake To Launch The Chiswick Timeline |
The mural will be unveiled at a street party at Turnham Green Terrace next Sunday Renowned pop artist and Chiswick resident, Sir Peter Blake will launch the Chiswick Timeline mural at Turnham Green Terrace next Sunday (28 January) at 12.30pm. He will be assisted in the unveiling by two other well-known members of the artistic community, Marthe Armitage and Jan Pienkowski, in the presence of the Mayor of Hounslow, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Hounslow and the MP for Brentford & Isleworth, Ruth Cadbury. The street will be closed to traffic until the event concludes at 3pm and the party to launch the mural is open to everyone. There will be live music, hot soup, hot cider, art biscuits, free maps and music, and art projects to participate in on the day which will be of interest to children and adults. There are also spin-off projects from the Timeline.
CHISWICK IN CERAMIC: PUT YOUR HOUSE ON THE MAP Installation kicked off last week on the Chiswick Timeline as workers started to place the murals on the walls under the railway bridge at Turnham Green Terrace. Jon Perry has posted a wonderful selection of photographs on our forum. The mural launch is the culmination of an ambitious project to transform the area which has been an eyesore for many years. Abundance London first proposed this project several years ago, and it took time and persistence to get permission from TfL and to sort out local sponsorship. Over 27 metres long, 2.5 metres high, this will be a landmark piece of public art. The mural is a timeline of historic maps showing the development of Chiswick through the centuries, with works of art depicting local landmarks by some of the artists who live and work in our area. Chiswick councillors, notably John Todd, through the Chiswick Area Forum, helped Abundance get S106 funding from Hounslow Council for the project. Southfield ward councillors have given their backing with a grant. Contributions have also been made from Transport for London. You can also get updates from the Chiswick Timeline web site and the Abundance London Twitter page.
